Smoke & Spirit

The Wound Contains the Medicine

Welcome. If you’re here, chances are you’ve struggled with smoking. Maybe you’ve tried to quit. Maybe you have been afraid to try. Maybe you sense there is more to the story of Tobacco than “stop smoking” campaigns have told you. And you’re right. This approach is for people who want to heal their relationship with Tobacco — not just stop using it.Instead of another "quit smoking" program, Smoke & Spirit offers a different path: one rooted in animist ethics, ritual logic, and hyperbolic tapering. It doesn’t demand that you make an abrupt break with tobacco. Instead, it invites you to shift from a compulsive relationship to a conscious one, and to gradually transform addiction into reverence.

“What you do not bring to consciousness, appears in your life as fate.” — C.G. Jung

Return to Relationship

For millennia, Tobacco has been one of the most revered and respected medicines in the Americas. It was and is widely considered the “First Medicine" by Indigenous people. The problem isn’t Tobacco. The problem is the dismembered, commodified, industrialized relationship we have with it today.Smoke & Spirit reintroduces Tobacco not as a product or enemy, but as a powerful being that we can return to right relationship with. We start by asking: what if Tobacco could become an ally again? You will learn and apply time-tested ritual frameworks which offer a depth of meaning you may never have imagined possible with regard to Tobacco.

Most approaches to stopping smoking, even “gradual” ones, drop your nicotine levels in large chunks — 30%, 50%, or even more. For someone whose nervous system has adapted over years, that’s like pulling the floor out from under you. This process involves a specific method of reducing, called hyperbolic tapering, which means reducing by a small but consistent percentage of your current dose, rather than large, sudden drops. This is a hugely important difference, as you will come to understand by participating in this process. The taper is slow. It may take months. But it's gentle. It respects your body, your nervous system, your history, and the plant itself. If you think you have “tried everything” (or been scared to try), chances are you haven’t tried this.We are running a beta version of this protocol starting September, 2025, for people who want to participate in a small and committed online group. If you feel called to be part of something that could transform your relationship with Tobacco, and hone a protocol that could help many more, please join us. Great healing awaits.
